Ilya Mirosh 5.0 (645) Demo singer Lead singer Vocal arranger Posted October 28 1 I usually only focus on one song at a time (a few days), because when I'm working on a song - I catch a wave of inspiration and don't want to get off it until I realize all my vocal ideas. I sing, warm up and hum some of the ideas that come into my head while I'm listening to the song. Amin Yahyazadeh 4.9 (96) Music & Audio Posted October 28 1 Before a show, I usually do a 15-minute warmup to keep my vocals fresh and ensure a strong presence across different dynamics. When recording, I focus on each part individually, layering different vocal takes until the song is fully built, which gives the final track depth and cohesion. John Long 4.9 (830) Recording engineer Vocal arranger Posted September 12 1 Keeping a healthy pace is vital. This can be difficult with deadlines and demand. Having a warm up routine is an incredible way to be prepared for the session and to keep you voice strong and healthy post-session. Hydration, hydration, hydration. Switch out your morning coffee with throat coat tea the morning of your session. Vocal steamer is a great idea as well. Beyond vocal health, staying inspired can be even more challenging. Understand that is okay to step away from a session if that inspiration isn't there. This shows a high level of professionalism toward the project. Sure, pushing through can mean a quicker payout but the project may suffer and ultimately lead to more revision sessions simply because something "is missing". I know this from experience . Taking a walk outside or even coming back another day can be exactly what you need to do. Also, always keep the client looped into the process in some form. Statements like "Hey! The project is coming along great. I want to make sure what I deliver is the absolute best I can do. Do you mind if I take an extra day or two to solidify these takes?" Almost always the client will fully understand. Ollie W 5.0 (194) Lead singer Vocal arranger Posted September 11 1 My vocal health is of utmost importance to me as I rely on it daily to work and perform. I always warm up at least 30 minutes before any recording session or live performance; I regularly steam my voice and I make sure that my physical and emotional wellbeing is at its best. I want to be able to give 100% to every job and client and it's my responsibility to be able to deliver that. I know when I need to rest my voice and I listen to my body to not overdo it. Finally, I listen to lots of different artists and genres of music which keeps me inspired in my vocal performances. Martin T. 5.0 (404) Ghost producer Lead singer Posted August 27 1 o keep my vocal performances fresh and inspired, I believe it's crucial to be well-rested and mentally balanced. Negative emotions can easily impact a performance, so I make sure to take care of my mental and physical well-being. A key secret is not recording too many songs in one day. Part of the craft is understanding that both the mind and voice need rest in order to perform at their best. By respecting that balance, I’m able to deliver more authentic and powerful takes, whether in the studio or on stage.
