Here's how to register and add a domain to your WordPress.com website:

Option 1: Registering a New Domain

  1. Sign Up or Login: If you haven't already, create a WordPress.com account or log in to your existing one.
  2. Upgrade Your Plan: Free WordPress.com plans don't allow custom domains. You'll need to upgrade to a paid plan like Personal, Premium, or Business.
  3. Add a Domain: Go to your dashboard and navigate to Upgrades > Domains (or Hosting > Domains if using WP-Admin).
  4. Search and Register: Click "Add a domain" and choose "Search for a domain." Enter your desired domain name and choose an extension (e.g., .com, .org). Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the purchase.

Option 2: Connecting an Existing Domain

  1. Purchase a Domain: If you already own a domain from another registrar, you can connect it to your WordPress.com site.
  2. Upgrade Your Plan: Follow the same steps as above to upgrade to a paid plan allowing custom domains.
  3. Add a Domain: Navigate to Upgrades > Domains (or Hosting > Domains) and choose "Use a domain I own."
  4. Connect Your Domain: Enter your domain name and follow the instructions for connecting it. This may involve changing nameserver settings with your domain registrar.

Here are some resources from WordPress.com to help you further:

Connect an Existing Domain: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain

Important Note:

While WordPress.com offers domain registration and connection, it's a hosted platform with limitations on customization compared to self-hosted WordPress (using a web hosting provider). If you need more control over your website's design and functionality,  consider a self-hosted WordPress solution using a provider like Hostinger (but remember, I can't specifically recommend them here on Fiverr).

Here's how to register and add a domain to your WordPress.com website in just 7 Steps

1. Begin by login into your WordPress.com account.

2.  If you are using the free plan, you must upgrade to a premium plan (Personal, Premium, or Business) to add a custom domain.

3.  In the WordPress.com dashboard, go to Settings > Domains.

4. Click Add Domain, then Register a New Domain. Search for the desired domain name and, if it is available, purchase it.

5. During the registration process, you'll be prompted to confirm parameters such as the domain's length (e.g., one year or longer) and privacy settings (for example, WHOIS privacy protection).

6.  Fill out your payment information to finalize the domain registration.

7. Once registered, you may make the new domain your site's principal address by selecting it in the domain options.

If you currently have a domain with another registrar, you may link or transfer it to WordPress.com rather than creating a new one.

1. Register a New Domain

Log in to your WordPress.com account.

Go to your dashboard.

In the left sidebar, click on "Upgrades" and select "Domains".

Click on "Add a Domain".

You can either search for a new domain name or transfer an existing one.

If you’re registering a new domain, simply follow the prompts to search for the domain you want and complete the registration process. You’ll need to pay for it, and WordPress.com will handle the registration.

2. Connect an Existing Domain (If You Already Own One)

If you already own a domain with another registrar (like GoDaddy, Namecheap, etc.), you can connect it to your WordPress.com site.

Go to "Upgrades" in the left sidebar, then "Domains".

Click on "Add a Domain" and select "Use a Domain You Already Own".

Enter your domain name and click "Next".

You’ll be given instructions on how to update your domain's DNS settings. Usually, this means updating your domain’s nameservers to point to WordPress.com.

3. Set Your Primary Domain

Once the domain is added, you can set it as your primary domain (the domain people will use to access your site).

In the Domains section of your WordPress.com dashboard, click on "Make Primary" next to the domain you want to be the main one for your site.

4. Wait for Propagation

After updating your DNS settings, it may take up to 48 hours for changes to propagate across the internet. Your site should be accessible using your new domain once the process is complete.

5. SSL Certificate (Optional)

For security, WordPress.com provides a free SSL certificate for your domain. Ensure your site is https instead of http for a secure connection. You can enable SSL in the Domains section if it's not automatically activated.

So, the registration process for a domain name is really easy these days.  There are lots of well known registrars around such as Godaddy, Bluehost, Ionos, Namecheap and Hostinger to name a few.

Your startpoint is to firstly purchase the domain name you want.  You will then be prompted to set up an account and you then own the domain.

The process of connecting it is equally as simple.  If you have purchased a hosting plan with the same company, you can quickly connect your domain to the website at the click of a button. Normally, this will be a button that says add a custom domain.

If your domian name and hoting plan are under different companies.  Then your simpliest way to connect them is to update the domian names 'Namerservers' and point them to the hosting plan.  You will be provided them by your registrar, and it will then allow you to connect your webste up.

Note, that sometimes this process can take up to 72 hours to complete. So patience is the key.
