The best method I like to stay up to date with new video editing techniques is by observing. With experience you start to learn that learning editing is not limited to tutorials and online courses. The best way to learn video editing is by watching videos and editing techniques used in them.

For instance I watched a music video by Mike Shinoda "Make it up as I go" and I recreated that style and made a short promo video for a client. And that client had a huge traffic with that video.

Also making new friends and networking will make you know new trends as well. You can share your knowledge and they can share theirs.

Overall trends are called trends because many start to do them. When many do them we can spot patterns. So trying to see this patterns will help you catch up as well.

I am an avid YouTube viewer, and my primary source of entertainment is watching videos on the platform. I stay updated on trends, editing styles, and techniques. Before collaborating with a client, I ask them to provide examples of their videos or channel, as well as their favorite channels and sources of inspiration. I take the time to research and review the materials they share with me.

I like staying current by following industry-leading editors, attending webinars, and exploring platforms like YouTube and forums for the latest trends and techniques.

I regularly experiment with new tools and styles to understand their impact. I prefer incorporating trends that align with the project’s goals and enhance the viewer's experience, ensuring they add value without overshadowing the core message.

Thanks

Guessing the trend is the easy part. You just need to have the critical eye to follow-up and research about the trend. It is not about video editing or something, the basic is the same for every niches out there. You search for what you need.. There are tons of platforms these days, like youtube, facebook and other social medias to capture the trend. Fact here is you can not expert this within a day. The more you dive in, the more you learn. Focusing on every details matters the most. Not to mention, sometimes you have to also know when to not follow the trends. Which will make you unbeatable. Good Luck!

As a video editor on Fiverr, I stay updated by following industry blogs, watching tutorials, and exploring new features in tools like DaVinci Resolve, Premiere Pro, and After Effects. I also keep an eye on trending styles from popular creators and platforms. I choose trends based on what suits my client's project goals, making sure they enhance the video without overwhelming the main message.

There's nothing like consuming media, with a critical eye, to keep up to date on trends. Visual culture is essential for any video professional - but it's also important to know when to not follow the trend, and to develop a personal style.

I stay current with video editing trends by following industry blogs, watching tutorials on YouTube, and keeping an eye on what other creators are doing, especially when it comes to AI advancements. I love experimenting with new techniques, including AI tools, to see how they can improve my workflow. When deciding what to incorporate, I always consider the needs of my clients and the style that suits their projects. If a trend or AI tool adds value and enhances the final product, I’ll use it; if it doesn’t fit or feels forced, I pass. It’s all about finding the right balance.
