I first started dabbling with CapCut back in early 2023, just to see what the hype was all about. At that time, it was gaining popularity, especially among TikTok users for quick edits on mobile. I remember thinking, "It’s not going to be a serious contender against industry standards like Premiere Pro or After Effects," and the fact that it was mobile-based made me even more skeptical.

But fast forward to early 2024, I began using CapCut more regularly, and I started noticing how many in-built features it offered that would’ve usually required custom work and more time on my professional software.

Bu the real game changer for me was around the same time whenI stumbled upon some seriously impressive edits that were, to my surprise, completely done on mobile,

and I'm talking advanced edits, which I could only imagine being done on After Effects.

That was the turning point, where I realized that mobile editing had the potential to offer something far more flexible than I had originally thought. The quality of edits I was seeing, made me dedicate almost a year to mastering CapCut, while also honing my skills with another powerhouse app: Alight Motion Pro, which is a mobile-only tool focused on motion design and animation, very similar to AE with its technical capabilities.

To add even more- by the time I had built up enough confidence with these two applications, I took the leap and tackled a complex project that involved motion design and animation, all on a powerful device- iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Now, CapCut Pro combined with Alight Motion, along with the constant technological advancements in mobile devices, have proven for me personally that mobile editing isn’t just for quick fixes. These tools are now legitimate solutions for creating professional-grade content on the go, capable of tackling any kind of editing challenge once you know how.

P.S. If you're curious to see how I’ve applied this mobile editing approach, I’ve dedicated an entire project page in my portfolio to showcase some of my latest work between Oct-Nov, 2024, all done entirely on mobile using CapCut and Alight Motion.

CapCut is a real game changer for social media editors. For quick Reels or videos that don't require a lot of animation/graphics/color grading work, Capcut has it all. So in terms of re-defining, as an editor of almost 10 years, I have never thought someone will bring more complex video editing software to the phone use.

So I would say it's pretty amazing for content creators, but it still not developed enough to be used by professional video editors.
