What role does pre-visualization (pre-vis) play in your VFX projects, and how do you use it to plan and execute complicated sequences?

Previs simply speeds up the process. Allows me to consult progress and ensure I'm on the right tracks, in terms of the general concept, composition, framing and timing of the video. I treat previs as a moving sketch, which saves hours and days of 3d work and rendering time.
