Pre-production is absolutely essential to how we operate at Dashti Media. We need that solid foundation to ensure everything runs smoothly and that we deliver a final product that exceeds our clients’ expectations. Here’s how we approach it:

1. Understanding the Client’s Vision & Script

  • The first step in our pre-production process is getting a clear understanding of the client’s goals and vision. We spend time discussing the purpose of the video, their script (if they have one already), the key messages they want to convey, and who the target audience is. This is either done via email, direct messages, or on a call. This step allows us to align our creative approach with their objectives right from the start.
  • We carefully review their scripts to make sure it aligns with the goals and vision, always looking for ways to enhance the delivery through visuals, pacing, and the overall presentation. Since the script is the backbone of the video, this step is crucial in setting the tone and ensuring that the message is clear and impactful.
    • For our spokesperson videos, we pay particular attention to how the script will flow when spoken. We’ll make tweaks if needed so the delivery can feel natural and engaging, as if we’re having a direct conversation with the viewer. If we have any script questions, we always ask the client ahead of the shoot.

2. Logistics and Scheduling

  • After the script is locked down, we turn our attention to the logistics. This includes everything from booking the studio time to coordinating with any additional crew or talent needed. We also finalize details like set design, wardrobe, and makeup to ensure that everything aligns with the desired look and feel of the video.
  • At Dashti Media, we pride ourselves on efficiency, so we create a detailed production schedule that accounts for every step. This helps us stay on track and avoid any last-minute surprises.

3. Tech and Equipment Check

  • We never leave the technical side to chance. In pre-production, we do a full check of all the equipment: camera battery and settings, lighting, audio, and teleprompter - to ensure everything is in perfect working order. This step is super important and helps prevent any hiccups that can happen during the shoot - ensuring the final product is of the highest quality.

4. Attention to Detail

  • At Dashti Media, we believe that the little things matter. Whether it’s making sure the lighting matches the mood we’re aiming for, or ensuring the wardrobe and background complement the script, we pay attention to everydetail. This meticulous approach in pre-production means that by the time we start shooting, everything is in-place to create a polished, professional video.

5. Client Communication

  • Throughout the pre-production process, we maintain open communication with our clients. Regular updates and check-ins ensure that they’re involved and satisfied with each step. Sometimes we’ll send our clients BTS shots during the shoot so they can see how everything is trucking along. Our goal at Dashti Media is to make sure the entire process, from pre-production to production exceeds their expectations.

To summarize, pre-production at Dashti Media is where we lay the groundwork for successful projects. By focusing on thorough planning, attention to detail, and clear communication, we can guarantee that every project runs smoothly and results in a video that truly stands out.

Pre-production is crucial for any video project because it helps you plan everything in advance. Here’s why it’s so important:

    1.    Saves Time and Money: By planning ahead, you make the filming process smooth and efficient, avoiding costly delays.
    2.    Brings Your Vision to Life: Whether it’s a commercial or a creative video, pre-production ensures that every detail on screen matches your original idea.

My Pre-Production Steps

    1.  Make Checklists:
    •    Locations: Find and secure where you’ll film.
    •    Props and Costumes: List and prepare everything needed for the shoot.
    •    Actor Schedules: Coordinate times to avoid conflicts.
    •    Equipment: Check all cameras, lights, and gear.
    •    Storyboards and Lighting: Plan each shot and how it will be lit.

    2.    Confirm Everything: Double-check all details are set and ready.

    3.    Follow the Schedule: Stick to the plan during filming to stay on track.

🙂 Have a Producer - If you’re directing, get a producer to make sure the pre-production plan is followed. This keeps the shoot organized and on budget.

Pre production is very important.

I like to ensure I know exactly what I am doing, In fact sometimes I wont even work with a customer if they cant give me a degree of information.

For example, one of my requirements is a script. If they cant do a script I ask for the top 3 unique selling points and make a script for them.

If they cant even provide that then I am not the right seller for them,

I did free style a lot in the early days for that type of customer but it just ended up being a mess, they'd not get what they wanted and it would be my fault for not being able to mind read.

I start with a clear vision, making detailed checklists for the script, shots, locations, and gear. I also scout locations and do rehearsals to catch any issues early. By being super organized upfront, I make sure we’re ready for anything on the day of the shoot, so we can focus on getting the best results without any hiccups.

Pre-production is the key to success! I use it to plan everything. Scripts, storyboards, shot lists. No guesswork happens later. It’s where creativity meets logistics. I ensure every detail is locked in by involving all stakeholders early. Setting clear milestones. Double-checking everything from timelines to resources. This prep work saves time, money, and headaches. The whole project runs like a well-oiled machine. 🛠️📋
