A wide variety of AI-powered speech-to-text tools and platforms are available, many of which offer "free" services, including options like Otter.ai and Sonix.ai. Each of these tools comes with its advantages and limitations, and what works best for one user may not necessarily be the ideal choice for another. The best approach is to explore these platforms and evaluate which one aligns most closely with your specific needs and workflow.

For example, I prefer tools that allow me to adjust playback speed, as I often listen to recordings at 2X speed. This feature is crucial for my productivity, but it may not be important to everyone. Depending on your requirements, you may prioritize other features, such as transcription accuracy, ease of use, or integration capabilities. Ultimately, it's important to experiment with a few different options to find the tool that best fits your unique preferences and tasks.

It’s also important to note that no AI-powered transcription tool is perfect. These platforms will undoubtedly make errors that will need to be corrected. As a user, you’ll need to weigh the pros and cons of using these tools and decide whether the time spent correcting inaccuracies is worth the convenience of automated transcription. Balancing efficiency with accuracy is key to finding the right tool for your needs.

I don't think any tool can do the job as well as a human can. I would advise against fully trusting any tool, especially free ones. I always prefer doing things manually because clients expect accuracy and human effort. If they just wanted something automated, they wouldn't need to pay us. We are here to provide that level of precision and attention to detail.

Whisper by OpenAI is an excellent choice. It offers high accuracy, supports multiple accents, and can handle diverse audio inputs. It's open-source, so you can use it for free if you're comfortable with some technical setup.

In my experience, there is no free tool that can completely achieve what a human can pick up from an audio or video file. I do often get customers asking me to correct or read over an AI created transcript. Especially when it comes to German transcripts. Having said that, the support of an AI such as 'Google Speech-to-Text' amongst others can be useful since not everything has to be typed.

Hope that helps.
